ABOUT KOBE BRYANT

Kobe Bean Bryant (born August 23, 1978), nicknamed the "Black Mamba", is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He entered the NBA directly from high school, and has played for the Lakers his entire career, winning five NBA championships. Bryant is a 15-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, and 12-time member of the All-Defensive team. As of March 2013, he ranks third and fourth[3] on the league's all-time postseason scoring and all-time regular season scoring lists, respectively.

Bryant enjoyed a successful high school basketball career at Lower Merion High School, where he was recognized as the top high school basketball player in the country. He declared his eligibility for the NBA Draft upon graduation, and was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets, then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. As a rookie, Bryant earned himself a reputation as a high-flyer and a fan favorite by winning the 1997 Slam Dunk Contest. Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal led the Lakers to three consecutive championships from 2000 to 2002.

A heated feud between the duo and a loss in the 2004 NBA Finals was followed by O'Neal's trade from the Lakers after the 2003–04 season. Following O'Neal's departure Bryant became the cornerstone of the Los Angeles Lakers franchise. He led the NBA in scoring during the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons, setting numerous scoring records in the process. In 2006, Bryant scored a career-high 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, the second most points scored in a single game in NBA history, second only to Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game in 1962. He was awarded the regular season's Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) in 2008. After losing in the 2008 NBA Finals, Bryant led the Lakers to two consecutive championships in 2009 and 2010, earning the NBA Finals MVP Award on both occasions. At 34 years and 104 days of age, Bryant became the youngest player in league history to reach 30,000 career points. He is also the all-time leading scorer in Lakers franchise history.

Since his second year in the league, Bryant has been selected to start every All-Star Game. He has won the All-Star MVP Award four times (2002, 2007, 2009, and 2011), tying him for the most All Star MVP Awards in NBA history. At the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, he won gold medals as a member of the USA national team. Sporting News and TNT named Bryant the top NBA player of the 2000s. In 2003, Bryant was accused of sexual assault after having sex with a hotel employee in Edwards, Colorado. In September 2004, prosecutors dropped the case after his accuser refused to testify. A civil suit was later filed and settled out of court.

Lakers unsure when Kobe Bryant will return

LOS ANGELES – Kobe Bryant was on the sideline taking part in rehabilitation exercises during the first half of the Los Angeles Lakers' opening workout of the season. Not only do the Lakers not know when Bryant will make his season debut, they also can't say for sure when he'll practice. "If I told you I knew when, I'd be lying because I have no idea," Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said. "I don't know.

He's up to 80 percent on the anti-gravity stuff. When he gets to 100, you'll have to ask [athletic trainer] Gary [Vitti]. Is that two weeks? Is that three weeks? I don't know. I would say some time in the next three weeks. "But at the same time, it's kind of conjecture. He can have a little setback or not. There are a lot of things. But he is progressing great and he is doing well. He'll be back sooner than later, but I don't know when that is." Bryant, 35, ruptured his Achilles tendon on April 12 against the Golden State Warriors and missed the rest of the season.

He said on Saturday he is uncertain when he'll make his season debut. To fill in during his absence, the Lakers entered training camp with a long list of shooting guards. D'Antoni said he is being cautious by planning as if Bryant won't return soon.

"We've got to develop the team and go without him if he isn't here the first game," D'Antoni said. "If he is here the second game then you just plug him in. I still don't know when it is. Since we still don't have a timetable, we can't just wait on him." The Lakers have added free-agent guards Nick Young, Wesley Johnson and Xavier Henry. Young is the most promising scorer of the group. Guard Jodie Meeks, who shot a career-low 38.7 percent last season, also returns.

But of all the possible Bryant replacements, Steve Blake is the most likely to be starting at shooting guard when the Lakers open the preseason against the Warriors. Blake averaged 10 points and 2.2 3-pointers made per game as a starter last season. He usually plays point guard, but started alongside Steve Nash in last season's playoffs. "You have to prepare as if [Bryant] might not be here at the start," Blake said.

Only six Lakers return from last season, and starters Dwight Howard and Metta World Peace are among the departed. Nash and forward Pau Gasol could see limited minutes in the preseason. The best-case scenario for Bryant is he returns for one of the Lakers' late preseason games. With all the injuries and new faces, chemistry will be an issue for the Lakers – with or without Bryant. "It might be a little bit of a challenge," Gasol said. "Me and Steve are going to be out there, hopefully, most of the time. … Kobe is going to come in when he comes in."

ABOUT SOUTH WEST MONSOON

The southwestern summer monsoons occur from June through September. The Thar Desert and adjoining areas of the northern and central Indian subcontinent heats up considerably during the hot summers. This causes a low pressure area over the northern and central Indian subcontinent. To fill this void, the moisture-laden winds from the Indian Ocean rush in to the subcontinent. These winds, rich in moisture, are drawn towards the Himalayas. The Himalayas act like a high wall, blocking the winds from passing into Central Asia, and forcing them to rise. As the clouds rise their temperature drops and precipitation occurs. Some areas of the subcontinent receive up to 10,000 mm (390 in) of rain annually.
The southwest monsoon is generally expected to begin around the beginning of June and fade away by the end of September. The moisture-laden winds on reaching the southernmost point of the Indian Peninsula, due to its topography, become divided into two parts: the Arabian Sea Branch and the Bay of Bengal Branch. The Arabian Sea Branch of the Southwest Monsoon first hits the Western Ghats of the coastal state of Kerala, India, thus making this area the first state in India to receive rain from the Southwest Monsoon. This branch of the monsoon moves northwards along the Western Ghats(Konkan and Goa) with precipitation on coastal areas, west of the Western Ghats. The eastern areas of the Western Ghats do not receive much rain from this monsoon as the wind does not cross the Western Ghats.
The Bay of Bengal Branch of Southwest Monsoon flows over the Bay of Bengal heading towards North-East India and Bengal, picking up more moisture from the Bay of Bengal. The winds arrive at the Eastern Himalayas with large amounts of rain. Mawsynram, situated on the southern slopes of the Khasi Hills in Meghalaya, India, is one of the wettest places on Earth. After the arrival at the Eastern Himalayas, the winds turns towards the west, travelling over the Indo-Gangetic Plain at a rate of roughly 1–2 weeks per state[citation needed], pouring rain all along its way. June 1 is regarded as the date of onset of the monsoon in India, as indicated by the arrival of the monsoon in the southernmost state of Kerala.
The monsoon accounts for 80% of the rainfall in India[citation needed]. Indian agriculture (which accounts for 25% of the GDP and employs 70% of the population) is heavily dependent on the rains, for growing crops especially like cotton, rice, oilseeds and coarse grains. A delay of a few days in the arrival of the monsoon can badly affect the economy, as evidenced in the numerous droughts in India in the 1990s. The monsoon is widely welcomed and appreciated by city-dwellers as well, for it provides relief from the climax of summer heat in June. However, the roads take a battering every year. Often houses and streets are waterlogged and slums are flooded despite drainage systems. A lack of city infrastructure coupled with changing climate patterns causes severe economical loss including damage to property and loss of lives, as evidenced in the 2005 flooding in Mumbai that brought Mumbai to a standstill. Bangladesh and certain regions of India like Assam and West Bengal, also frequently experience heavy floods during this season. Recently, areas in India that used to receive scanty rainfall throughout the year, like the Thar Desert, have surprisingly ended up receiving floods due to the prolonged monsoon season. The influence of the Southwest Monsoon is felt as far north as in China's Xinjiang. It is estimated that about 70% of all precipitation in the central part of the Tian Shan Mountains falls during the three summer months, when the region is under the monsoon influence; about 70% of that is directly of "cyclonic" (i.e., monsoon-driven) origin (as opposed to "local convection").

This name uses Spanish naming customs; the first or paternal family name is Álvarez and the second or maternal family name is Barragán. Santos Saúl Álvarez Barragán (born July 18, 1990), commonly known as El Canelo (from canela, Spanish for cinnamon, in reference to his red hair), is a Mexican professional boxer in the Light Middleweight division. He is the former WBC, WBA, and Ring Magazine Light Middleweight Champion. He is promoted by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions

Personal life

In an interview, Álvarez explained that he was born in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, but his family was at the time living in San Agustín de Tlajomulco de Zúñiga. At the age of five his family moved to their current home of Juanacatlán, Jalisco. Growing up on his family's farm, he learned horseback riding, which he continues today. Álvarez is the youngest of eight children, seven of them boys; all of his brothers also became professional boxers. Among his brothers are welterweight boxers Ramon Álvarez, Ricardo Álvarez and former Interim WBA World Champion, Rigoberto Álvarez. Álvarez was engaged to 30-year-old Marisol González, who is Miss Mexico Universe 2003 and a sports reporter for Televisa Deportes. He has one daughter that he had with a former girlfriend.

Amateur career

Álvarez started boxing at 13 years old, after watching his older brother Rigoberto Álvarez's debut as a professional boxer. In 2004 he won the silver medal at the Junior Mexican National championships, held in Sinaloa. He became the 2005 Junior Mexican National Boxing Champion in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, at the age of 15. Even though Álvarez turned pro young, he had 20 amateur bouts.

Professional career

Álvarez turned professional at 15, shortly after his championship at the Junior Nationals, because his trainers at the time, father-and-son team Chepo and Eddy Reynoso, were unable to find suitable junior opponents for him. In his first 19 months as a professional, he knocked out 11 of his 13 documented opponents, all of whom were significantly older. However, the elder Reynoso stated in 2013 that Álvarez had fought 10 more times in that span, winning all 10 by knockout, but that these fights (all in small venues in the Mexican state of Nayarit) were so poorly documented that it was not worth the trouble to seek to have the record corrected. Álvarez' third official bout of his career was a win over the now current IBF Lightweight Champion, Miguel Vázquez on January 20, 2006, at his home town of Guadalajara, Jalisco. On June 28, 2008, Álvarez defeated Miguel Vázquez again in a rematch. He also made world history in that fight card when all of his six brothers fought on the same night, Canelo being the youngest. The only downside was that three of them failed to win their pro debuts. The other four more experienced brothers won. On March 6, 2010, he got a crushing third round knockout over Brian Camechis in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.[19] Álvarez defeated Jose Miguel Cotto on May 1, 2010, on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley undercard in the MGM Grand Garden Arena on HBO PPV to retain his NABF Welterweight title.

The Fight Of Mayweather And Saul Alvares

Saul Alvarez (R) throws a right at Floyd Mayweather during their WBC/WBA super welterweight.

Boxer Floyd Mayweather celebrates his majority decision victory over Saul Alvarez.

Pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather said he dislocated his left elbow in the middle of his majority decision over previously unbeaten Saul Alvarez. The 36-year-old Mayweather earned a record $41 million purse Saturday for a dominating 12-round victory in which he claimed Alvarez's World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association super welterweight belts. "I could have used more combinations down the stretch. I think I dislocated my elbow," said Mayweather during the post-fight news conference. Mayweather said that for rounds six and seven he couldn't use his jab because of the suspected dislocated elbow, although round seven still turned out to be one of his strongest of the fight. "My arm was hurting, and I wanted to stop using my jab and just paw with it," Mayweather said. Doctors were expected to examine the elbow this week. He used his superior hand speed to keep Alvarez at bay, but Mayweather still only managed to win the fight on two of the three judge's scorecards. Judge CJ Ross surprisingly scored it a draw, 114-114. The other two judges, Craig Metcalfe (117-111) and Dave Moretti (116-112) had Mayweather winning in a breeze. Ross surprised many by giving six rounds to Alvarez. She is also one of two judges who scored a win for Timothy Bradley over Manny Pacquiao last year. Mayweather criticized Ross after the fight. "I think it is a woman, and she could be older," said Mayweather. Mayweather was fighting for just the second time since being released from prison after serving a sentence for assaulting the mother of his children. Mayweather gave away 13 years in age and 15 pounds to the younger and stronger Alvarez. The Mexican fighter tipped the scales at Friday's weigh in right on the 152-pound catch weight. But by the time he entered the ring, Alvarez had ballooned to 165, 13 pounds heavier than he was at the weigh in. It was also 10 pounds heavier than the weight he had been sparring at in the week leading up to the fight. The added weight made him look slow and awkward in the ring as he suffered the first loss of his career. This was the second fight in Mayweather's six-bout, 30-month contract with Showtime that could pay him more than $200 million. Saturday's fight marked the first time since 2007 that he has fought twice in a calendar year, and Mayweather said he plans to repeat that schedule in 2014 and 2015 by fighting in May and September. Mayweather repeated several times after the fight that he is counting down the months until retirement, and he believes he will stop boxing sometime in 2015. "I only got 24 months left," he said.
